KIDS MAKE MOVIES! Sign up for NYICFF's one- and two-week filmmaking camps during the February, April and Summer School breaks. Classes are offered in a variety of animation and live action filmmaking techniques for ages 6 to 16. Students will conceive, storyboard, write, shoot, draw, model, create sets, and perform on camera to create a completed short film. Workshops have included Create-a-Cartoon, Multimedia Storytelling, Moviemaking Master Class, Rotoscope Animation, Claymation and more!

Useful info:

  • Classes are held Monday-Friday
  • Unless otherwise noted, all classes are from 10am to 4pm
  • Extended care is available from 9am to 10am and from 4pm to 5pm. The charge for extended care is $5/hour per student ($50/session).
  • There will be a one hour lunch recess each day - students should bring a packed lunch.
  • All students will receive a DVD copy of their final film.

    Workshops take place Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm (early drop-off and late pick-up available).
    Class sizes are limited and are expected to sell out. All films made during the April workshops will be shown at the 2015 Festival. All classes take place at P.S. 89, located at 201 Warren Street.

    Recommended for Grades 3-5
    In this hands-on animation workshop, students will use the stop-motion technique of pixilation to create and star in their own movie. Students will collaborate under the guidance of filmmaker Aaron Hughes (Backwards, NYICFF 2011) to conceive, write, storyboard, construct sets, shoot, act in, and produce a completed mixed media animated short film.

    Recommended for Grades 6-8
    Learn filmmaking from start to finish! Improvise, act, write, direct, light, record live audio and make an original short film. Use professional film equipment and discover what it's like to work on a film shoot. Through hands-on experience, become familiar with practical filmmaking concepts including shot composition, audio-visual storytelling, and editing fundamentals. Past projects produced through this workshop include sci-fi thriller, documentary-style romantic comedy, horror, and historical drama.

    Full scholarships are available. Students who qualify based on proof of income are eligible to apply. Preferable documentation is letter from child's school indicating eligibility for Free and Reduced-Price Lunch. If this is unavailable, paystubs or proof of Medicare, unemployment, or social security benefits may be used instead.
