Acquisitions and Development Coordinator

GKIDS is an independent film distributor focused on the best animation from around the globe. Our films have twelve Academy Award ® nominations for Best Animated Feature, and GKIDS also handles the Studio Ghibli library of films, including such classics as My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away. Recent releases include The Boy and the Heron, Belle, Inu-Oh, and EVANGELION:3.0+1.01 Thrice Upon A Time.

As an Acquisitions and Development Coordinator you will be immersed in the ongoing work of an independent film distribution and production company known for releasing the highest-quality animation in the world. GKIDS acquires multiple titles a year, carefully maintaining commercial and critical expectations around its slate, and has ongoing development projects with filmmakers and studios across the world. The Acquisitions and Development team works closely with all departments across the company. The Coordinator will have a hand in all facets of our film acquisition and development work and is a great opportunity for someone passionate about animation and eager to become deeply involved in film acquisitions and production.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Build and maintain databases, scheduling and documents as they pertain to day to day and long term communication and projects.
  • Provide coverage of scripts, screeners and other creative assets
  • Field unsolicited inquiries regarding film submissions, productions and pitches
  • Assist in communication and translation between and with valued Japanese partners
  • Provide research on industry trends, IP, creative talent and other needs as they relates to potential and active projects
  • Initiate contact and maintain relationships with agents, representatives, buyers, producing partners, studios, talent, etc.
  • Occasional need to take calls/meetings outside of traditional work hours. Potential for festival travel.

Qualifications:

  • 1-3 years relevant experience in film, media or relevant business
  • Excellent communication skills on all channels (email, phone, and in person)
  • Informed awareness of animation, film and anime landscape.
    • A passionate and deep knowledge of international animation is a plus!
    • Pre-existing industry relationships not necessary but a plus
  • Proficient in Japanese (written and verbal)
  • Highly organized and capable of self-direction, with ability to take proactive approach to developing systems for juggling nuanced and growing amounts of information
  • Creative research skills
  • Excellent reading and writing skills with a critical and concise eye
  • Confidence in asserting opinions
  • Knowledge of Google suite of applications and their connectability

Role reports to the Director of Acquisitions and Development and is based in our New York headquarters.

The salary for this position is between $55,000 to $65,000. GKIDS offers a range of competitive benefits including: subsidized health insurance plans, commuter benefits, donation matching, and vacation policies.
